The Honorable [Senator or Representative's Full Name]
Office address
Washington, DC 20510 (20515 for House)
Dear Senator/Rep. [Name]:
As a [Fill in State or District] resident and voter, I am writing to encourage you to support the U.S. Public Service Academy Act (HR 2102). [Endorsers from your state] are strong advocates for the legislation. [Co-Sponsors from your state] have already the agreed to co-sponsor the U.S. Public Service Academy Act. The Act was introduced in April by Reps. James Moran (D-VA) and Ander Crenshaw (R-FL), and companion legislation will be introduced in the Senate soon. In the last Congress, the bill had 24 Senate co-sponsors and 123 House co-sponsors from both parties. I think it is an important bill, and I urge you to become a co-sponsor. America needs the U.S. Public Service Academy. Our country faces serious domestic and international problems in the twenty-first century, and we need our top young people to go into public service to help us confront these challenges. The Academy will provide a consistent flow of highly-qualified, service-oriented young leaders who are committed first and foremost to our country.
Young people want to serve our country, but many of them want to serve in a civilian capacity. We should use the model of our excellent military academies to build a similar institution to develop future civilian leaders. Many students feel that they cannot afford to pursue public service after graduation because they have accumulated too much debt. The Academy will give service-minded students the opportunity to serve our country without enduring financial hardship.
The U.S. Public Service Academy Act is an opportunity for you to be a leader in the movement to
strengthen our nation’s public leadership. I urge you to support the bill by becoming a co-sponsor. I look forward to reading your reply.
Sincerely,
Your Name
[State] Youth Advisory Council
