So. This is our — mine, Nicole’s, Ben’s, and Melissa’s — last week as interns at the U.S. Public Service Academy. The way the time flew has been incredible! It’s been an exhilarating summer in D.C. in terms of what we’ve simply been able to observe. From stalking motorcades to debating what the Blue Dogs will do next to enjoying intern happy hours, we’ve had a great time.

We’re also extremely proud of our work at the Academy. Ben has hustled up and down the Hill seeking co-sponsors for the bill; Nicole has called probably every foundation, military leader, and college in the United States; I can rattle off newspaper contact info like nobody’s business; and Melissa has contacted countless potential donors.

All in all, we’ve added about a dozen co-sponsors, several endorsements, and written many letters to the editor and op-eds, and received donations. We’ve worked hard to spread the message and increase support for the Academy. This summer has been tough–yes, Congress has been active, but most of the energy has been directed toward those two monoliths: energy and healthcare reform. It’s been difficult to gain the necessary momentum and attention for passage, but we’re nevertheless hugely proud of what the Academy’s accomplished this summer.
