This is my last week at the Academy and I’ve been taking some time to reflect on what I’ve learned.  The most amazing thing I have seen is the persistence of Chris Myers Asch.  This is a man who does not give up.  Whether meeting with congressional representatives and staffers for the nth time, or speaking at another event to support the Academy, or responding to bloggers, there is an optimistic, indefatiguable quality that is apparent.  It reminds me a great deal of Sargent Shriver, who envisioned and led the Peace Corps and also founded Head Start, Vista, Upward Bound, the Special Olympics, and more, ultimately receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his work.

I have also been amazed by the dedication of college and high school students to making the Academy a reality.  Young people want to serve their country and they want their government to be effective.
