Golden Report on the U.S. Public Service Academy

March 4, 2009 | Contributor: Mark Dlugash

I just found a great blog entry on the U.S. Public Service Academy.  Here’s an excerpt:

“What will it take to make the U.S. Public Service Academy a reality?  Right now, with a new Congress and a new Administration, it is a time like no other.  It will take the voices of Americans from across the country to join with notable individuals like Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, Vice President Joe Biden, Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, over 50 college and university presidents and current and retired military leaders among so many others.

Many Americans decry the way that Washington works and wish that they could have more of a say in government…A poll of college freshman in 2006 found that over 70% expressed a desire to serve–but largely because of the debt that many face once they graduate from college, a career in public service is often not a financially viable option.  The USPSA is a solution to a problem that is only beginning to be realized.”

Busy Day at the Academy

March 3, 2009 | Contributor: Mark Dlugash

It’s another very busy day at the U.S. Public Service Academy.  Chris was interviewed by NPR this morning and then headed downtown.  We have meetings on the Hill scheduled with staff members for Representatives Bean (IL), Fudge (OH), Rogers (KY), Luetkemeyer (MO), Polis (CO), Welch (VT), Lance (NJ), and Senator Barbara Boxer (CA).  Right now we’re on a conference call with Service Nation, and we were just endorsed by former chairman of the Democratic National Committee and Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe and Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at the University of Michigan Lester Monts!
