Imagine my surprise when I opened up Time magazine to read Sen. Obama telling an interviewer: “I can make public service cool again.” Hallelujah! That’s exactly what we need — a president who can make government service compelling and attractive to young people. That’s what the U.S. Public Service Academy is all about.
As some of you know, I have been speaking on college campuses about this issue. In fact, the title of one speech that I give is “Making Public Service Cool (Again).” I don’t mind Sen. Obama stealing my line — he’s the one that can really make it happen, after all. But if he’s going to talk about making public service cool again, then he really should take some action too. He should sign on as a co-sponsor of the Public Service Academy bill!
What do you think, Sen. Obama? Can we expect some action?

Perhaps you should read An Education for Our Time, Joshua Bunting.
Learning service in D.C. Hmmph.

You mean public service isn’t cool right now? I’m wasting my youth then…just kidding!
Please check out this site dedicated to restoring accountability to local government. If we can get people trusting government again at the local level, perhaps they will begin to remember why it’s called public ’service’ in the first place and be interested in participating. Too many people are pushed out by people who run for office to do public dis-service.
